EXAMPLE OF TOPIC WITH THESIS:

Michel is a 20 year-old migrant from Syria. His story is one of war and terror. Poverty marginalization and violence are the conditions he faced in his home country. Here in Rome, he is a bit better off, but still faces prejudice and the impossibility of integration. He also misses his family back home. What Michel faced while crossing over from Syria to Italy by sea is what my interview will narrate. We cannot allow stories like his to unfold. We need to mobilize as a society to help people like Michel for there are hundreds of thousands like him in the EU. We cannot sit and watch.

I. INTRODUCTION

A. Attention getter – story (anecdote), quote, fact, statistic (MAKE IT INTERESTING: HOOK YOUR AUDIENCE)

B. Thesis – Why you wanted to interview the person. What do you want to prove or persuade us of? What is the point your interview wants to make?

II. BODY Three points supported and explained with examples.
Lots of anecdote from the person’s life.

A. First point from thesis
Series of bullet points of examples and anecdotes (little stories) that illustrate the person’s life (experience, characteristics, thought, philosophy)
Support these with direct quotes from the interview: or summarize and paraphrase them.

B. Second point from thesis

C. Third point for thesis
Series of bullet points of examples and anecdotes (little stories) that illustrate the person’s life (experience, characteristics, thoughts, personal philosophy)

III. CONCLUSION Tie it all together referring back to attention getter.

YOUR INTERVIEW IS SUCCESSFUL WHEN YOU ASK INTERESTING AND UNUSUAL QUESTIONS. THINK ABOUT OUR PERSONAL INRTODUCTIONS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER. SOME QUESTIONS FROM THE PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE MIGHT COME IN HANDY.
